While some of our sustainable and resilient curvilinear designs are yet to be locked in stone (or, more accurately in basalt reinforced concrete!) consider how this beachfront "dome of a home" withstood the full force of Hurricane Ivan when it slammed Pensacola in 2004. As intended by its designer and builder, Mark Sigler, it sustained damage only to the ground-level staircases, garage and the laundry/storage area.
A television news crew took shelter with Mark in his "Serenity by the Sea" shortly before Hurricane Ivan hit. Their safety was made possible by the dome's intelligent design and hurricane resistant construction.
Similar modified dome designs may incorporate multiple Parrotheart Village living units - each having 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths and spacious walk-in closets.
Mark's company, DragonSpeedDesignGroup, has expressed its interest in joining our team as designers and architects for Parrotheart Village locations. Today, we are moving ahead "at dragon speed" to make their engagement a reality.
Besides the esthetics of bringing pleasure to the eye, this strong and durable construction design provides long term economic benefits like an exceptionally low maintenance cost; less expensive to heat and cool; and likely to cost much less to insure due to their proven ability to withstand hurricane force winds and wind driven tidal surges.
In 20 years time its thought these designs may pay back the cost of their construction from the savings on heating and cooling costs. We think that's smart.
